Mammootty, the Malayalam superstar, had first given a taste of his acting to his Kannada audiences in the Kannada movie, Love, in 2005. Now the maestro is ready to shine on the Kannada screen once again with Shikari. Abhay Sinha is going to direct the film for which he himself has written the story and screenplay.

The movie is about the pre-independence and post independence conditions in India. Mammootty is most likely going to play a double role in the movie, one of a software geek and the other of a zealous freedom fighter.

The film, produced by K Manju, is a bilingual movie – a combination of Kannada and Malayalam. National Award winner Anmol Bhave is to give music to the movie. According to some sources, the Malayalam dialogues are going to be written by Mammootty himself

Synopsis & Crew

Shikari is the story of a software engineer hunting the characters from a novel. We explore what happens if some one is to fall in love with the characters in a novel. The hunt is also with in us as we hunt for meanings in life. The hunt to know the rulers of our minds. Do we really learn from our past? Does the past really help us understand today’s problem in different light? Shikari poses several questions to you and sets you in the hunt within your self.

മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ ശിക്കാരി മലയാളത്തിലും
മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ കന്നഡ ചിത്രമായ ശിക്കാരിയുടെ ഷൂട്ടിങ് ഉടന്‍ ആരംഭിയ്ക്കും. കെ മഞ്ജു നിര്‍മ്മിയ്ക്കുന്ന ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ ഷൂട്ടിങ് മെയ് മധ്യത്തോടെ ആരംഭിയ്ക്കാനാണ് പദ്ധതിയിട്ടിരിയ്ക്കുന്നത്.

ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ സംവിധായകന്‍ അഭയ് സിന്‍ഹ മമ്മൂട്ടിയെ നേരില്‍കണ്ട് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കാള്‍ഷീറ്റ് വാങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. കന്നഡയ്ക്ക് പുറമെ മലയാളത്തിലും ചിത്രം പുറത്തിറക്കുമെന്ന് സംവിധായകന്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. കന്നഡയില്‍ ശിക്കാരിയെന്ന് പേര് തീരുമാനിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലും മലയാളത്തില്‍ എന്ത് പേര് വേണമെന്ന കാര്യത്തില്‍ അന്തിമ തീരുമാനമായിട്ടില്ല.

ചിത്രത്തില്‍ മമ്മൂട്ടി ഡബിള്‍ റോളിലാണ് അഭിനയിക്കുന്നത്. ഒരു സോഫ്റ്റ് വെയര്‍ എഞ്ചിനീയറുടെയും സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യ സമര സേനാനിയുടെയും വേഷങ്ങളായിരിക്കും മമ്മൂട്ടി അവതരിപ്പിയ്ക്കുക. സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിന് മുമ്പും അതിന് ശേഷവുമുള്ള ഇന്ത്യന്‍ സാഹചര്യങ്ങളാവും സിനിമ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യുകയെന്നറിയുന്നു. സംവിധായകന്‍ തന്നെയാണ് ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ തിരക്കഥ രചിച്ചിരിയ്ക്കുന്നത്.

ചിത്രത്തിലെ നായികയ്ക്ക് വേണ്ടിയുള്ള അന്വേഷണങ്ങള്‍ പുരോഗമിയ്ക്കുകയാണ്. ബോളിവുഡ് താരം കൊങ്കണ സെന്‍ നായികയാവുമെന്ന് നേരത്തെ റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുകളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ ഇതിന് സാധ്യതയില്ലെന്ന് അഭയ് സിന്‍ഹ വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ തിരക്കഥയില്‍ കൊങ്കണ ഏറെ താത്പര്യം പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചെങ്കിലും കന്നഡ അറിയാത്തതിനാല്‍ അവര്‍ സിനിമയില്‍ നിന്ന് പിന്‍മാറുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്ന് സംവിധായകന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

മലയാളത്തില്‍ മോഹന്‍ലാല്‍ ശിക്കാര്‍ എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ ഷൂട്ടിങ് തുടങ്ങാനിരിയ്‌ക്കെയാണ് മമ്മൂട്ടി ശിക്കാര്‍ എന്ന ദ്വിഭാഷ ചിത്രവുമായി മുന്നോട്ടു പോകുന്നത്.

Malayalam superstar Mammootty was in Bangalore on Sunday to launch his first Kannada movie
Shikari, which is a bilingual film. The south Indian actor seemed very excited to shoot his debut movie in Kannada, which is being directed by Abhaya Simha and produced by K Manju.
After launching Shikari on Sunday afternoon in the city, Mammootty spoke about why he accepted the project. "I loved the script. It drew me to say yes almost automatically. The added advantage was the fact that there is a young able director and a good producer backing the script. I always wanted to do a Kannada film, which is why I said yes to this bilingual project," DNA's After Hrs Bangalore quotes Mammootty as saying.
However, Shikari is a dream project of award winner director Abhaya Simha. Mammootty is playing an IT professional in the film, which is set in the pre-Independence era. It deals with the pre- and post-independence conditions in India. The film bosses are still in search of a suitable actress for the role of the lead lady. Aditya, Mohan, Rangayana Raghu are in the other cast.
