2 lakh VCD, DVDs of 'Pazhassi Raja' sold!
Mammootty starrer 'Pazhassi Raja', directed by Hariharan, had
rewritten several records in Mollywood B.O. history when it was released
last year. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] The film had also done well in Tamil Nadu. Now, it is the turn of its VCD-DVD sales. They are selling like hot cakes and has already created a record in Malayalam home video. The video was launched by Moser Baer Home Entertainment on May 1. Company CEO G. Dhananjayan said that they had already sold 200,000 VCDs and DVDs of Pazhassi Raja, a record for home videos in Mollywood. Huge advertisements put up by retailers helped the sales, he said. 'Pazhassi Raja', written by MT Vasudevan Nair and produced by Gokulam Gopalan, was released in Kerala with 130 prints. The movie created a record as it collected Rs. 1.53 crore on the opening day. The film, made at a budget of Rs 25 crore, has grossed Rs 49 crore in total and got Rs. 2.60 crore for satellite rights. | |

The VCD-DVD sales of the much acclaimed Hariharan-MT-Mammootty team's
classic period masterpiece Pazhassi Raja has created a new
record in Malayalam home video by selling over two lakh units in three
days. Pazhassi Raja's home video was launched by Moser Baer
Home Entertainment on May 1.
Moser Baer Home Entertainment CEO G. Dhananjayan said: "We have
already touched sales of 200,000 units of VCDs and DVDs of Pazhassi
Raja, which is the highest in the home videos of Malayalam so far
for any title. The retailers in Kerala have put up a massive display of
the title, thus creating huge excitement among customers who visit the
outlets and all the stocks launched by us have been sold out."
Pazhassi Raja was released on October 16 last year with 130
prints in Malayalam and later with 150 in Tamil, 100 in Telugu and 110
in Hindi. The movie became the biggest ever blockbuster and most
successful commercial flick in Malayalam. It garnered Rs. 1.53 crores on
the initial day of its release from theatres in Kerala alone, which is a
record. The film ran 150 days in 5 theatres in Kerala and grossed Rs.
49 cores in total. The movie also got a whopping Rs. 2.60 crores for
television rights.
